Montez Africa Safaris - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When you book your safari with Montez Africa Safaris, you’ll receive a pre-departure package that includes extensive details, important information, and a map with your safari schedule. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your journey.
A. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GO ON SAFARI?
Tanzania offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities throughout the year. The dry season
(June to October) is considered the best time for game viewing, but the wet season (November
to May) also offers remarkable wildlife experiences. Although April and May are less optimal
due to long rains and camp closures, there are still many options available during these months,
and you'll benefit from fewer crowds and lower costs.
A. WHAT TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS ARE NEEDED
Passport: Must have at least five consecutive blank visa pages and be valid for at least
six months beyond your departure date.
Visa: You can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, or
Zanzibar airports, or you can apply in advance in your home country. The visa must be
paid in cash in USD upon arrival.
WHICH AIRPORT SHOULD I FLY TO?
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): Located about 60 km (1 hour) from Arusha,
this is the closest international airport.
Arusha Municipal Airport (ARK): Only serves domestic flights to places like Dar es
Salaam, Zanzibar, Tarangire, Manyara and all over Serengeti.
ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER TANZANIA?
We recommend scheduling a visit with a travel doctor in your home country before your trip.
Vaccinations such as yellow fever, typhoid, malaria, cholera, hepatitis A, and tetanus are
advised. Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory, and you’ll need to show proof upon arrival.
For additional medical advice, visit the CDC’s Tanzania Health Information.
If you have a medical condition, it’s important to inform both your physician and the airline. You
may need a medication passport for easy access to prescriptions abroad.
WHAT PAYMENT OPTIONS DO YOU ACCEPT?
*Wire Transfer: Payments can be made via wire transfer to our bank accounts in
Tanzania.
*Credit Cards: You can also pay via credit card
DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers loss, damage, or theft of
luggage, medical expenses, and repatriation. If you plan to engage in extreme activities like
scuba diving or mountain biking, ensure your policy includes coverage for such activities. Note
that mountain climbing requires specialized mountaineering insurance. Montez Africa Safaris
does not accept liability for these activities.
WHAT IS TANZANIA'S CLIMATE LIKE?
The climate is tropical on the coast (hot and humid) and temperate in the inland parks. From
October to mid-March, temperatures are hottest, while June to September offers cooler
conditions. The rainy season runs from mid-March to May. Be prepared for varying
temperatures at different altitudes and pack clothes that can be easily layered.
For more information on Tanzania’s climate, visit Tanzania Weather Guide.
WHAT IS TANZANIA'S CURRENCY?
The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). We recommend bringing US dollars (USD)
and withdrawing Tanzanian Shillings from ATMs, which accept Visa and MasterCard. The
maximum withdrawal per transaction is TSH 400,000 (about USD 200). USD is widely accepted,
but having local currency is beneficial. While larger hotels and restaurants accept credit cards,
small lodges and remote areas typically do not have ATM access.
Note: Tanzania does not accept USD notes printed before 2007.
